APD is a registered non-profit organisation helping people with most forms of physical disability

The Association for the Physically Disabled - Greater Johannesburg provides the following services at grassroots level:

COMMUNITY SERVICES:

SOCIAL WORK SERVICE: to assist people with disabilities (pwd-s) and their families to resolve their personal problems - both psychological and physical - and empower them to develop towards an independent lifestyle.

HOME-BASED / ATTENDANT CARE SERVICE: dealing with the daily physical needs of indigent members of the community who are permanently or temporarily disabled.

PROTECTIVE WORKSHOPS: APD continue to mentor workshops in Tembisa and Soweto as safe, disabled-friendly environments providing opportunities for pwd’s to develop and improve their skills and to earn an income to supplement their pensions.

COMMERCIAL SERVICES:

BARRIER BREAKERS (BB) has public awareness campaigns designed to break down barriers between pwd-s and able-bodied individuals of all ages. It also assists employers with all aspects of diversity training and facilitation/ accommodation issues pertinent to pwd's.

BARRIER BREAKERS RECRUITMENT which prepares pwd's for the open labour market and identifies employment opportunities for pwd's.

BARRIER BREAKERS ASSISTIVE DEVICE RENTALS to members of the public as well as to private and public sector companies/organisations.

LEAN ON US HOME CARE AGENCY. An agency offering basic and specialized care to meet the essential and personal hygiene needs of temporarily and permanently disabled people.

ALL INCOME GENERATED BY BB IS IN AID OF PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES. Barrier Breakers Drawing on the more than 7 decades of experience of the APD, Barrier Breakers (BB) works in close collaboration with the APD to address the following issues: Accessibility Audits, Disability Awareness & Sensitisation, Education & Training of decision-makers, Reasonable Accommodation, Staff Recruitment and Team Building exercises.

APD B-BBEE COMPLIANCE A BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP WITH US WILL BENEFIT YOUR BUSINESS APD - Greater Johannesburg is a useful partnership from a B-BBEE and PBO perspective.

For every R100.00 you spend on one of our services you get R125.00 on your B-BBEE scorecard. As a Value Adding Supplier our procurement recognition level is 125% giving organizations a significant extra benefit from procuring services from the Association. In addition, more than 75% of the Association's beneficiaries are 'black' people as defined in the B-BBEE Act. Thus, companies can count into the Socio-Economic Development component of their B-BBEE scorecard the value of both monetary and non-monetary contributions made to the Association.

The certification of the Association is 100% B-BBEE compliant. As an Exempted Micro Enterprise, our B-BBEE status is that of a Level 4 Contributor.
