Pats & Slaps
People with physical disabilities have a much to contend with. It should be clear to any person
why it is important for public places to be easily accessible to our people with physical
disabilities, and why we should all get upset when inconsiderate able-bodied people abuse
what little facilities there are for people with physical disabilities.
PATS & SLAPS gives you the opportunity to speak up.
Our goal is to create awareness. Often decision-makers are not aware of problems that exist. Hopefully this column will give them a wake-up call and make life a little bit easier for our people. E-mail us your contribution.
Remember: you don’t have to be disabled to speak up. Show you care. A polite reprimand could change an attitude.
A Big Slap To
- Every able-bodied person who has ever parked in a zone for the disabled.
- Every able-bodied person who has ever used a public toilet allocated for use by the disabled.
- Every employer who is trying to duck and dive out of the conditions of the Employment Equity Act.
- Public Transport for not catering for our needs.
A Big Pat To
- Everybody who supports us financially.
- Everybody who supports us as volunteers.
- All the companies and individuals who supported our Annual Golf Day both as players and sponsors.
- All the companies and individuals who supported Casual Day.
With your help, the APD will never have to walk away from the problems facing those who can’t walk.
