About Us

Welcome to the Association for the Physically Disabled – Greater Johannesburg (APD)! We are a compassionate and empowering organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and their families. With a rich history spanning over eight decades, we have been at the forefront of advocating for inclusion, providing support, and promoting opportunities for people with disabilities.

Our Journey:
The APD's journey began in the late 1920s when a group of compassionate individuals recognized the need for specialized care and support for children with physical disabilities. What started as a training home soon evolved into a national association with branches across South Africa. Throughout the years, we have adapted to the changing landscape, facing challenges head-on and seizing opportunities to make a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve.

What We Do:
We provide a wide range of services and programs designed to address the unique needs of individuals with physical disabilities. Our offerings include:
1. Employment Support: We believe in empowering individuals with disabilities to participate fully in the workforce. We provide vocational training, job placement assistance, and ongoing support to help them secure meaningful employment.
2. Advocacy and Awareness: We actively advocate for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in society. We work with government bodies, community organizations, and other stakeholders to raise awareness, influence policy, and drive positive change.
3. Support Services: We offer a range of support services, including counseling, assistive technology, mobility aids, and social support networks, to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Our Commitment:
At the APD, we are guided by our core values of compassion, empowerment, and inclusivity. We strive to provide person-centered care, respecting the unique needs and aspirations of each individual we serve. Our dedicated team of professionals, volunteers, and supporters are passionate about making a difference and are driven by the belief that everyone deserves equal opportunities and a life of dignity.

Join Us:
Whether you are a person with a disability, a family member, a supporter, or a community member, we invite you to join us on this remarkable journey. Together, we can create a society that embraces diversity, breaks down barriers, and ensures that every person, regardless of their physical abilities, can live a life filled with possibilities.
